Man United have made Antonio Silva their ‘top target’ for the 2024 summer transfer window.
Manchester United are suddenly looking a little older defensively. The Old Trafford side have an ageing Raphael Varane on their books, while Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are no longer all that young, either.
Lisandro Martinez is the practical baby of the bunch, and he’s also out injured. Who knows whether he’ll return to his best form?
With Varane currently out of favour, United need to replace his quality with a genuinely elite footballer, preferably, someone a little on the younger side too.
Florian Plettenberg believes Man United may have found their answer in the form of SL Benfica’s Antonio Silva.
According to his sources, United have installed the 20-year-old as their ‘top target’ for the summer window. United are ‘already keen’ on contract details and their plans for the ‘top talent’ Silva.
The player has a massive €100m (£86m) release clause, while his current club, SL Benfica, ‘expect’ him to leave in the upcoming summer window.

United have always enjoyed success when buying from the Portuguese league. It seems to translate well to both their style as a club, and also Premier League football in general.
A new centre-back is probably the top priority for the club right now, as Erik ten Hag looks to continue to add strength in depth to this squad.
Silva is someone who fits the bill. He’s still improving and developing, while being young enough for the United gaffer to mould into one that suits his style of play down to the ground.
He would probably need time to settle in given he’s still so young, though as we all know, a good start is absolutely vital when moving to a club of United’s size and stature.
