Man United are believed to be the current leaders in the race to sign Joao Neves.
Manchester United Football Club still need further signings in order to move this club back to the next level. Credit where it’s due, Erik ten Hag has made some brilliant additions so far. In the Dutchman we continue to trust.
One name that seems to keep popping up among the back pages is Joao Neves. The Portuguese midfielder continues to impress at his current club SL Benfica. He’s now receiving global recognition for his performances.
O Jogo (Tuesday print edition) have now provided an update on his future. With thanks to Sport Witness for relaying the information. They state that United are now the ‘frontrunners’ to sign the emerging 19-year-old. However, winning his signature will not be easy…
Benfica are working to keep ahold of Neves for as long as possible, with the player protected by a massive release clause and a contract until 2028. There is set to be a new offer on the table soon, with an even bigger clause included.
While United may be leading the charge right now, the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Barcelona are all also keen.
Benfica know that they’re going to lose Neves at some point, though they would like to keep him for at least one more season.
I can genuinely see Neves moving this upcoming summer. He’s just that good and I’d be more surprised if one of the big boys didn’t make a serious bid in six or seven months’ time.
He’d be an unreal signing for United. This club has always done well when buying from Portugal. Why should we have any reason to believe that will change now?
