Man United will seemingly look to sign a defender in the not too distant future, with Radu Dragusin now on the radar.
I don’t think it’s a great secret that Manchester United will look to sign a defender at the next possible opportunity, particularly as Lisandro Martinez remains sidelined and Raphael Varane looking that little bit older.
Erik ten Hag will want to get younger at that position. Several players have been linked with filling that void though today, a new name has been thrown into the mix; Radu Dragusin.
It’s ProSport with the story, as Sport Witness provide the translation. They state that the man from Romania is ‘wanted’ by the Premier League side.
The Red Devils are said to have ‘launched the operation’ to sign the 21-year-old defender, who currently plies his trade for Genoa. United are said to have picked up the phone and made their first move to bring in the centre-half.
ProSports adds that the Reds will make a ‘significant financial effort’ to acquire the player, while there is a possibility of a January deal being struck – assuming the Reds can come up with the right amount of money.
Around £26m (€30m) is the fee being mentioned by Sport Witness, though United will not have it all their own way with some top sides also keen on Dragusin. Barcelona, AC Milan, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are all credited with an interest.
Aged just 21, Dragusin would allow to get younger at this key position, while it’s likely he’d be given meaningful minutes as soon as he walked through the door. I still believe this is more likely to happen next summer rather than January, as Genoa wouldn’t want to lose a key player in the mid-season window.
