Bayern Munich and Germany legend Lothar Matthäus has been watching the back-and-forth between Uli Hoeneß and Thomas Tuchel play out and even the bombastic former midfielder knows that some things are better left unsaid.
“Unnecessary statement from Uli. I don’t understand it. Maybe he is being misinformed. Maybe he’s hearing something and couldn’t put the pieces of the puzzle together. Three days before the Champions League semifinal against Real Madrid, nobody needs these headlines,” Matthäus told Sky Sport (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Thomas Tuchel is rightly angry, to put it formally. I would be furious because something like that is unacceptable. You should present yourselves as a unit – at least in the final few weeks of the season. In my opinion, Thomas Tuchel is certainly a coach who has made many young players better.”
Hopefully, the exchange between the two men is over and the focus can return on facing Real Madrid in the Champions League.
