After Alphonso Davies scored his right footed rocket in the 68th minute, Bayern Munich started to look ahead to the Champions League final against their Bundesliga rival, Borussia Dortmund. Real Madrid quickly made two offensive substitutions as Bayern went into a defensive shell, hoping to stave off the imminent attacking force.
But the physicality of the match, along with the lingering injuries that accrued throughout the grueling season, forced Thomas Tuchel to make some untimely substitutions of his own. The tide turned when Real Madrid scored two goals in three minutes to pull off the surprising comeback.
After the game, Tuchel lamented the untimely decisions:
“[Harry Kane] couldn’t continue. The front four all had to be subbed off. Harry had an issue with his back,” Tuchel lamented in his postgame interview (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Serge Gnabry pulled his hamstring in the first half (again!), while Leroy Sané and Jamal Musiala were also relieved of their duties before the dying whistle.
