Bayern Munich fell in the Champions League semifinals in the most agonizing manner possible to a Real Madrid side that seems to be made of destiny.
With fellow Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund already booked to the Final in Wembley, the Bavarians could not muster up enough to make it two for two for Germany. But it was not for lack of trying.
Substitute Alphonso Davies turned in a phenomenal shift at winger after Serge Gnabry’s injury, collecting a beautiful lofted pass from Harry Kane and lashing it into the back of the net off his weaker right foot. At the time, Bayern seemed charmed. But Madrid is inevitable…and after one unlucky flub from Manuel Neuer, everything seemed to fall apart. Harry Kane and Leroy Sané were already off, and then the second goal came, Bayern pulled apart despite its defensive shell.
The Bavarians fought hard to a, let’s call it controversial finish, but it was not enough.
Still? This team did its fans proud with this Champions League effort. Almost, but no cigar.
