Former Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn had his eyes on Harry Kane a long time before the former Tottenham Hotspur star finally made his way to Bavaria.
The idea of the Englishman moving to Germany was floating through the executive offices when Kahn was in charge, but ultimately did not occur until after Kahn was let go.
“That was our thinking. Bayern can bring in Harry Kane, and Bayern has to consider Erling Haaland. Bayern can also think about Kylian Mbappé. This thinking is important because the club has achieved this standing. Of course it’s not just about players like that, but if you want to stay at the top, you need these superstars in combination with other characters and young players who can be integrated from the youth. The mix is crucial,” Kahn told Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
As for Kane, Kahn says the striker has quite a few more impactful years left in him.
“Harry Kane can certainly play at this level for a few more years. It was no surprise that he got off to this start. He is an experienced player at the top-top level,” said Kahn.
