West Ham faced a severe defeat at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea’s dynamic offensive display led to a 5-0 thrashing, casting doubts on David Moyes‘ future with the club.
In a week where West Ham initiated discussions with the currently unattached Julen Lopetegui about possibly replacing Moyes when his contract ends in June, the team’s performance did little to show support for their manager. Chelsea secured another emphatic home victory, their second major win in just three days, and the five-goal margin was a fair reflection of their dominance.
Cole Palmer opened the scoring with his 21st league goal of the season within the first 15 minutes, followed by goals from Conor Gallagher and standout player Noni Madueke before the break.
Despite Jarrod Bowen striking the bar twice in the first half, West Ham’s defensive efforts were lacking. They conceded again shortly after halftime when Madueke assisted Nicolas Jackson for the fourth goal. Jackson scored his second near the end of the match, his goal standing after a VAR review overturned an initial offside decision. This capped off a dismal afternoon for Moyes and his team, marking the second occasion in three games where we have conceded five goals.
It’s difficult to see where Moyes goes from here. Without the comfort blanket of a European place next season, the remaining two fixtures could be uncomfortable for the man in the dugout who clearly has no Hammers future.
