Bayern Munich outplayed Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal but failed to outscore Los Blancos. The matchup heads back to Madrid next Wednesday tied at two goals apiece. This marks the fourth consecutive Champions League knockout round where Bayern has failed to outscore the opponent in the first leg.
Bayern went down early but stormed back after halftime to take a 2-1 lead, thanks to a clever maneuver in the box by Jamal Musiala. Musiala earned a penalty kick and Harry Kane sent Andriy Lunin the wrong way.
After the game, Musiala gave a quick update on his nagging knee injury:
“I felt a little something. It‘s a small inflammation, because of which I had to take painkillers. But there‘s nothing really painful on the knee. Hopefully it‘s gone soon,” Musiala told @vcatalina96 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
It’s probably a safe bet that Musiala will be held out of Saturday’s Bundesliga clash at Stuttgart. Hopefully eight days will be sufficient rest time for Musiala to recover and be at 100% to help Bayern earn a spot in the final next month in London.
