Man United are now honing their efforts in on Benfica midfielder Joao Neves, ahead of a crucial summer transfer window.
It’s nothing new to learn that Manchester United are now being linked with what feels like every name under the sun. The Old Trafford side are set to undergo a rebuild, that could start with a fresh manager in charge.
With that, comes new players within the dressing room. Without big money available, the United boss will have to spend the cash astutely. However, one big name player that has often been linked with an Old Trafford transfer finds himself back in the headlines – Joao Neves.
All had gone somewhat quiet on that front, with reports claiming the Reds were focusing in on his teammate, Antonio Silva. However, Record‘s Thursday print edition, per Sport Witness, believe the club are now directing their attention back towards the addition of the talented 19-year-old Neves.
Apparently, the Reds are set to ‘advance’ for the signing as they look to find a replacement for Casemiro, who will not be a part of the INEOS project starting next term.
The man from Brazil is expected to leave the Theatre of Dreams in the coming months, with Neves identified as the ‘priority to rejuvenate’ that area of the field.
No official bid has been made at this stage, though Record believe that isn’t too far away, though Benfica will not let Neves go easily as they would prefer to keep ahold of the Portugal midfielder for at least another season.
United could move for Neves regardless of whether Ten Hag is still at the helm or not, with INEOS said to be big fans of the young man.
The problem here could be the asking price. Neves will not come cheaply, while United may have to sell some players before they can even consider bringing in the teenager.
I would love to see this deal happen. United have a good track record when it comes to signing players from the Portuguese league, so we should have every faith that this would be another excellent piece of business.
