Man United are working hard to try and bring Adrien Rabiot to Old Trafford this summer.
Manchester United links to Adrien Rabiot are nothing new. It feels very much like the Red Devils are rumoured to be keen on signing the Frenchman for each of the last few summers.
Well, that scenario is playing out again. It’s Sport Witness who relay information from Italian media outlet, La Stampa. Rabiot is believed to be on the Reds’ radar as we approach the opening of the transfer window.
As things stand, Rabiot signing a new contract with his current club, Juventus, is on stand-by as the two parties are not close to reaching an agreement. It’s doubtful the Frenchman will sign a new deal with the Old Lady.
Rabiot wants €7m a year to remain in Turin, though Juventus are seemingly having doubts about paying him that much money.
That’s where United come in, with the Old Trafford club now ‘pressing’ to sign the 29-year-old this summer. On top of that, the Reds are pushing ‘strongly’ to acquire the pending free agent. Bayern Munich are also credited with an interest.
As Sport Witness state, the same thing happened last summer. We all know how that turned out. Rabiot committed his future to Juventus for another year, using interest from United to earn himself more money. Would I be remotely surprised if he’s doing that again? Not in the slightest.
Rabiot is a decent player. Nothing more. Nothing less. He’s unlikely to be good enough to start in a title-winning side here in the Premier League. As a squad player, he’d do a job. It all depends on how much money he’s after. If it’s anything close to the figures mentioned last summer, then this move feels like an absolute non-starter.
