Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw to Real Madrid in the home leg of the Champions League semifinals was a hard-fought result which will give the Bavarians a fighting chance in the away fixture in Madrid. Individual mistakes from Bayern’s defense were equaled out by the Bavarians’ best attacking all season.
Jersey Swap: Kim Min-Jae Toni Kroos
Toni Kroos made the best pass of the game showing exactly why Julian Nagelsmann has put such confidence in the German veteran. Truly one of the great midfielders of his generation. Honorary mention to Vinicius Jr., who wasn’t spectacular but was clinical when needed.
Der Kaiser: Eric Dier
Eric Dier is often criticized but has really silenced the haters with his recent performances. Dier was reliable as ever against Madrid and was seemingly never out of position.
Fußballgott: Konrad Laimer
Konrad Laimer has been excellent as of late and he put in another great performance today. He dominated the midfield and outclassed even Jude Bellingham. None of the goals against Bayern today had anything to do with the midfield play.
Der Bomber: Leroy Sané
Leroy Sané brought Bayern back into the game when he hammered his shot short side to give the Bavarians all the momentum. Sané wasn’t as dominant as Jamal Musiala, but certainly showed signs of regained confidence.
Meister of the Match: Jamal Musiala
While Musiala didn’t score or assist today, he was here, there, and everywhere. He constantly caused problems for Lucas Vázquez and the Real Madrid defense. His drawn penalty was crucial, and gave a window for Bayern to win the game. Laimer could also have easily been given this award.
