According to reports from German media, West Ham United has expressed interest in VfB Stuttgart forward Jamie Leweling following his impressive performances in the latter half of the season.
As West Ham braces for significant changes this summer, with numerous players and possibly the manager facing uncertain futures at London Stadium, this inquiry gains some traction. The fact that Hammers director of football Tim Steidten previously secured Konstantinos Mavropanos from Stuttgart lends further credibility to these rumours.
German newspaper Bild reports that West Ham is interested in the right-winger, although his statistics are not particularly striking.
The 23-year-old has accumulated just ten goals and ten assists in 80 Bundesliga appearances, with nearly half of these contributions occurring this season.
Leweling has hit his stride since the winter break, becoming an essential component of the Stuttgart squad.
Stuttgart has the option to convert his loan from Union Berlin into a permanent deal for approximately €6 million but hesitates to activate this clause.
The clause expires at the end of next month, which is advantageous for Union, who are keen to leverage Leweling’s recent form to negotiate a higher transfer fee for the winger.
Despite his modest scoring and assisting records, Steidten seems interested in Leweling, who is known for his dynamic dribbling and ability to threaten defences with his direct runs.
