Kalvin Phillips joined West Ham United on loan from Manchester City in the January transfer window.
28-year-old midfielder Kalvin Phillips was seen as a brilliant signing for West Ham at the time, but he has turned out to be the worst addition we have arguably ever made, and that’s saying something!
David Moyes fought tooth and nail to bring Phillips to the Hammers back in January, and the deal to do so cost us around £4 million by all accounts.
The former Leeds man has endured a woeful spell with West Ham though. Moyes really should have signed a left winger or a striker rather than Phillips in January.
Not only has he been an absolute disaster on the pitch but he’s had a shocker off of it as well.
Phillips has already had a set-to with one Hammers fan, and he won’t be signed permanently in the summer.
That deal to bring the midfielder to the club has essentially cost Moyes his job at the London Stadium.
Phillips has let us down badly during his short spell at the club. He has given away a penalty, been sent off and has been at fault for numerous goals we’ve conceded since January.
And one talkSPORT host has a really good idea what the England international should do to make it up to the Hammers…
Kalvin Phillips has ‘sabotaged’ West Ham United’s season
Had Moyes not signed Phillips, and brought in a top-class attacker, I truly believe that we’d be sitting pretty inside the top seven.
Not only has he set us back £4 million in fees and wages, but he has also cost us by being the chief culprit behind our dip in form, and our subsequent failure to qualify for Europe.
Whoever pushed for the deal to sign Phillips needs sacking. However, the player himself needs to take responsibility for his woeful performances as well.
Tom Rennie, a host on talkSPORT and Sirius Radio, absolutely ripped into Phillips last night.
He suggested that the 28-year-old should personally refund the Hammers after his horror spell in East London…
I have to say, I make him right!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a new signing fail so quickly, aside from Marco Boogers of course. He hardly cost us anything though, and he certainly didn’t have a set-to with one of our own fans.
Kalvin Phillips has been nothing other that an unquantified disaster at West Ham.
He was a pathetic signing in the first place – a totally unnecessary addition to a squad that was crying out for strengthening in other areas.
That’s on Moyes, but Phillips himself is of course the main reason why the deal didn’t work out.
