A look back at Chelsea’s game against Manchester United on Wednesday night reveals that Axel Disasi, of all people, had the most touches in the game.
He touched ball 93 times in the game, with the closest on his team (Moises Caicedo) getting just 93, according to WhoScored.
Bruno Fernandes had the most touches for Manchester United with just 74, thanks mostly to the game state, but also showing how much more quickly United were able to progress the ball up the pitch to their attacking players.
Playing as the centre back allowed more of the ball by the opposition, it was on Disasi to produce important attacking movements, and he did use the space he was afforded to attempt 6 long balls in the game, completing 4 of them; along with one completed through ball from one attempted.
It would be interesting to have compared Benoit Badiashile’s efforts on the ball to Disasi’s and seen if the Frenchman had been able to do any better had he been picked. It will also be interesting to see if Badiashile is picked tomorrow night.
