Mauricio Pochettino has had a brief word with the media ahead of Chelsea’s game against Everton, noting that Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia haven’t returned from injury to feature on the bench because of a “small delay” in their recovery.
This came after he strongly hinted in his press conference this week that at least one of them would be on the bench today.
“The last step is always the most difficult thing. Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia are so close, but at the same time we had a small delay, but we hope that they can be involved soon,” the coach said.
At this point we don’t understand the club’s communication strategy in terms of injuries at all. This pair illustrates it perfectly. The club constantly hint that their injured players are close to a return, only to shit the deadline week after week.
All this serves to do is create frustration in the fanbase. They would be much better off being very conservative with their estimates, and playing down any chances of a player returning that week.
Instead fans are strung along week after week, feeling they’re not being told the truth.
