You’d expect there’d be some positive blow-back after Tottenham Hotspur Women’s first ever North London Derby win over Arsenal last weekend, and there is! Spurs keeper Barbora Votikova and midfielder Grace Clinton were both named in WhoScored’s WSL Team of the Week for their impressive performance against the Gunners.
It’s well earned. Votikova made eight saves and kept a clean sheet in her first ever WSL start and under incredibly tough conditions against an Arsenal side expected to challenge for the league title. Honestly, I’d have put at least one of Spurs’ back line in the team of the week as well considering how much they had to defend at the weekend, but hey, take what you can get, right?
And there’s more. DAZN and ATA Football also do a Team of the Week for the whole of Europe, and look who’s starting at keeper in this week’s edition!
I can’t find anywhere reliable where I can check it to be sure, but I can’t remember a time when a Tottenham player made an all-Europe weekly team like this. Sure, these things are basically run by media organizations and hardly matter, but it’s still pretty neat to see a Spurs player up there with players from Lyon and Barcelona.
Spurs have a good long break before their next match, which is home to Sheffield United in the League Cup on January 14. Their next WSL match isn’t until the week following, a tricky tie at West Ham. That match will certainly feature plenty of #narrative — West Ham are currently managed by none other than former Spurs boss Rehanne Skinner, who Tottenham sacked this past summer. The Hammers are 11th in the table with just five points from their opening 10 matches.
