Fans have demolished Jordan Pickford for his “truly awful” performance for Everton in their loss to Man City on Wednesday evening (27 December).
England’s number one had a night to forget at Goodison Park despite making some crucial saves as his side lost 3-1 to the reigning Premier League champions.
Leeds loanee Jack Harrison opened the scoring following a well-worked passage of play to put Pep Guardiola’s side behind, but the second half saw Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva claw back a win.
Pickford was directly at fault for Silva’s last-minute goal after his misplaced pass allowed the Portuguese ace to whip a cool effort into an empty net from outside the box.
The 29-year-old also failed to adequately clear an incoming corner with a weak punch, which was recycled by Man City and eventually led to Amadou Onana’s handball giving away a penalty.
He has been heavily criticised for berating his players when his side conceded but seemingly taking little responsibility when the fault falls at his feet.
The Toffees’ run of four straight Premier League wins has been ended by back-to-back losses to Tottenham and the Citizens which has left them 17th in the table just ahead of Luton Town.
Admittedly, Pickford made some excellent stops including a double save in the opening stages of the clash, but fans were far from forgiving for his multiple mistakes.
