Djed Spence’s homecoming lasted one week. Seven days after Leeds United terminated his season-long loan to the Championship over perceived attitude and commitment issues brought forth by manager Daniel Farke, Djed Spence has found a new club in Italy until the end of the season. Tottenham announced on social media that Spence has finalized a loan move to Genoa until the end of the season.
Djed Spence has joined Serie A side Genoa on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
Good luck, Djed!

In addition, Genoa have an option to purchase Spence outright for €10m, well below the £12.5m Spurs paid for him in summer 2022.
Spence’s loan has been ostensibly considered part of the Radu Dragusin transfer, but I’m also reading that it’s a separately negotiated deal. It’s Spence’s third loan after Leeds and a loan to Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais last season, and it very well could be the last one if he performs well in Italy; Spurs clearly are ready to cut ties with him after falling out with yet another manager, and Ange Postecoglou reportedly was “not impressed” with Spence’s attitude at the beginning of the summer.
I’m a big believer of second chances and redemption, but it seems pretty clear at this point that if Djed Spence is going to make it as a high level professional footballer it won’t be as a member of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. I hope he does well at Genoa, because that’s probably the most direct path towards him leaving Spurs on a permanent basis, and it’s equally clear that he needs a fresh start somewhere else.
