Fabrizio Romano has given an exclusive to Caughtoffside about the future of Trevoh Chalobah.
Chelsea were expected to sell the defender in January, but no bids seemed forthcoming and he’s still at the club. Romano says he’s now going to stay and fight for his place in the team:
“The expectation before the January transfer window was that Trevoh Chalobah would leave Chelsea and there was some interest in the player. However, the defender is now prepared to fight for his place in Mauricio Pochettino’s team as he is going to be fit and ready to play soon.
“In January Chalobah had some chances to leave the London club but it was never really close. Atletico Madrid considered the possibility of signing him, same for West Ham but nothing was ever close because of his salary, which was considered too high for a six-month loan.”
Now overall we’ve got a lot of question marks about Chalobah. Is he really still injured? Every time he seems close to a return, he gets another couple of weeks added on to his diagnosis. Mauricio Pochettino was very shifty when asked about him, saying he needed “permission” from the medical department to use him.
We don’t want to spread conspiracy theories, but with every passing week where we’re told Chalobah is “almost ready”, we start thinking more and more that there’s something going on behind the scenes.
Given the club won’t reveal exactly what this mystery problem he has it, you can only expect these sort of theories to abound.
