Ruud van Nistelrooy would be ‘perfect’ for the West Ham job, argues talkSPORT co-host Rory Jennings.
The Dutchman is out of work after leaving Manchester United this week following Ruben Amorim’s arrival.
Van Nistelrooy returned to Old Trafford in the summer as an assistant before becoming interim manager when Erik ten Hag was sacked.
He has now departed the Red Devils again, though, after winning three of his four matches in charge.
The 48-year-old remains keen to return to management over a year on from leaving his role as PSV boss.
talkSPORT understands Van Nistelrooy has applied for the vacant Coventry job, with Frank Lampard also in the running to replace Mark Robins at the Championship club.
However, talkSPORT co-host Jennings believes there is a top-flight club which would fit the former striker perfectly.
He said: “I can’t see a world where Ruud van Nistelrooy isn’t considered for a Premier League job. You can’t honestly believe that he’s going to dip into the Championship.”
He continued: “I think West Ham is actually the perfect club. If you think about what West Ham fans are in need of at the moment.
“If you think about the way that they are feeling and I think the way that they’ve been short changed by their ownership.
“I think Ruud van Nistelrooy is a tonic. Ruud van Nistelrooy is exactly what they were demanding.
“It’s the sort of appointment that West Ham fans not only demanded, but that West Ham fans deserved off the back of their protests about David Moyes leaving the club.”
West Ham parted company with David Moyes in the summer, replacing him with Julen Lopetegui.
Jennings added: “They were demanding a young, exciting, progressive manager, who was in keeping with the traditions of West Ham United. The West Ham way and all of that.
“That is not Julen Lopetegui, that is Ruud van Nistelrooy. Young, exciting, dynamic.”
Lopetegui has won three of his 11 league matches in charge, with the Hammers currently 14th in the table.
Reiterating his point, Jennings concluded: “The club that West Ham United want to be.
“The club that they are trying to market themselves as, you know, the London Stadium, the London club, European success. That is so perfect for Ruud van Nistelrooy.”
Van Nistelrooy’s only previous senior managerial experience came with PSV during the 2022/23 season.
He won both the Dutch Cup and Dutch Super Cup as well as finishing second in the Eredivisie during his sole campaign at the helm.
