All might not be well right now between West Ham united head coach Julen Lopetegui and director of football Tim Steidten.
It was claimed that David Sullivan was set for talks with Tim Steidten during the international break to discuss the future of Julen Lopetegui, but that has since been denied by club insiders.
The West Ham co-owner gave Steidten full control of transfers in the summer, and Julen Lopetegui apparently had to work with what he was given.
However, the start to the season has been a truly awful one for the Hammers.
We are currently sitting in 14th spot in the Premier League table, having taken just 12 points from our opening 11 games.
But who is really to blame? The football being implemented by Lopetegui is dire to watch, but was the recruitment from Steidten at the level it should have been?
I personally don’t think so, and Lopetegui could be about to let him know it.
Julen Lopetegui could cause Tim Steidten a problem
With two tough games against Newcastle and Arsenal on the horizon, Lopetegui is under real pressure right now, there’s no denying that.
Two defeats in those games could prove fatal, as far as his job security goes.
However, The Times have suggested that Lopetegui might not be happy with Steidten’s recruitment.
“Another report suggests the international break has been used for Steidten to meet the chairman, David Sullivan, to discuss Lopetegui’s future. The manager’s opinion on the standard of recruitment might be equally enlightening if Sullivan is in listening mode. No word from Arsenal or Liverpool yet, either.“
That’s actually a great point. However, Lopetegui would have known the terms and conditions when he signed the contract, so I have little sympathy for him.
I have to admit though, I haven’t been impressed one little bit with Steidten’s transfer business so far.
The German has really underwhelmed if you ask me.
And if Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui do meet with David Sullivan anytime soon, it will be interesting to see whether the German and the Spaniard stick together, or if they throw each other under the bus.
