Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has explained why he is not currently starting winger Mykhailo Mudryk in games right now.
Mudryk has really struggled since he arrived over a year ago now, and some Chelsea fans think he needs to go out on loan.
EXCLUSIVE! All the transfer deals, plans, and potential ins and outs that Chelsea actively worked on this January and why none of them happened!
Other don’t rate him at all, and some still have a real belief in him.
He’s been inconsistent, but has also had inconsistent appearances which probably hasn’t helped either.
But on the other side of that, he hasn’t done enough when he has been put on the pitch to merit a sustained run of starts. But you can argue whether other players have done that as well, yet still continue to get picked.
It’s all rather complex, but Pochettino has given his reasons as to why he is not picking Mudryk at the moment, and it’s basically because of his poor form when he has played.
In words picked up by The Evening Standard, Pochettino said:
“Yes, now Mykhailo Mudryk is on the bench. It’s about the form during the season. As coaching staff, we are a meritocracy – we are going to play with the players who are going to do their best on the pitch.
“I think Mykhailo Mudryk is a young guy that arrived here one year ago. We know the circumstances around [the transfer]. Of course, he needs to improve. He has amazing quality and potential, but it’s a [team] game, it’s not tennis.”
