Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard is reporting that Chelsea are considering changing formation to use a back 3 as a desperate last throw of the dice from Mauricio Pochettino as he looks to arrest our dreadful slide back down the table.
It’s an idea that has helped many Chelsea managers ever since Antonio Conte introduced it to the club. Since then, we’ve seen Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel and even Graham Potter use that setup on multiple occasions.
Many fans have been crying out for it all season, and we see why – it protects Thiago Silva in the middle of the pitch, it allows Ben Chilwell to play as a proper wing back, and it gets Levi Colwill into the team as a left centre back, able to use his passing ability to move the ball forward.
If anything, we’re amazed we haven’t tried it more often already this season. We’re very interested to see which team is picked on Wednesday now.
