Ben Jacobs is very close to the ownership at Stamford Bridge at the moment, and he’s keeping everyone up to date on Mauricio Pochettino’s future as the pressure rises.
On the one hand this makes him a great source of information from the very top. On the other hand it means you know you’re always getting the party line from him. As long as you remember that, you can rely on him for solid information.
Right now he’s clearly been told to preach calm, as he did last year with Graham Potter under pressure, and as he has done this year when Pochettino has been struggling.
Yesterday he insisted that Mauricio Pochettino is under no immediate threat of being sacked – and we believe him. There are more reasons for the owners to keep him than to let him go, as it stand.
But let’s not forget what happened 10 months ago – on the morning of the 2nd April, Jacobs Tweeted that “no change” was planned at Chelsea. Later that day, Graham Potter was sacked.
Business as usual at Chelsea this morning after the 2-0 loss to Villa. Graham Potter will be in charge for Liverpool. Focus remains on that game. No change planned before it despite pressure building. pic.twitter.com/MJDajtEYHa

Things change fast in football, as Jacobs said later on that fateful day. So don’t sit too comfortably, Mauricio.
