Yesterday we wrote about emerging rumours of Chelsea interest in Brazilian wonderkid Thalys.
The 18 year old has still not made a senior appearance for Palmeiras, but has 8 goals and an assist in 26 games for their U20 team.
He’s been called “the next Endrick” for the way he’s racking up the goals at such a young age. Amusingly however, he’s actually a year older than his fellow sensation, who heads to join Real Madrid this summer.
It looks like there is going to be enormous competition for him this summer. Unlike last summer’s Brazilian additions Deivid Washington and Angelo Gabirel, whom we seemed to sign without any rival bids, Thalys is apparently getting looked at by Manchester United, and we would expect plenty more names to be added to that list by the time we reach the summer.
The real question is when we get to see some payoff from the last couple of years of wonderkid investment – Washington, Gabriel, Andrey Santos, Cesare Casadei et al have hardly blown European football apart yet.
