Thiago Silva is becoming the centre of attention at Chelsea, something he’s not usually enjoyed in the past.
Despite being a legendary defender he keeps a low profile, and won’t like the fact that recent events have put him front and centre.
First is was his wife’s Tweet, which called for “change” at Chelsea.
Then he was dropped from the team at the weekend. That almost certainly just a bit of squad management from Mauricio Pochettino, but the fact the team played so well without him has changed the balance of power a little. It will certainly be very interesting to see what team is picked in the Premier League game against Crystal Palace tomorrow night.
Fabrizio Romano’s exclusive column for Caughtoffside revealed that even he has doubts about Silva’s future:
“Thiago Silva’s position in the Chelsea starting line up may now be in doubt after he missed the game against Aston Villa in the FA Cup, but I honestly don’t know about this situation or what it means for his place in the side for the rest of this season,” Romano wrote.
“It’s not a transfer story so it’s not really my area, it will depend on Mauricio Pochettino. But they clarified the situation days ago, so it seems to just be a technical decision now up to the coaching staff.”
Tomorrow night’s team sheet will be very interesting, to say the least.
