One Sky Sports pundit believes that a current Chelsea player has now lost his regular place in the starting lineup under Mauricio Pochettino this season.
Pochettino’s side have now strung a few very good performances and results together, in particular the win at Aston Villa recently, and the draw at Manchester City last night. In between that, they had a very good second half at Crystal Palace to get two late goals to come away with all three points from that one as well.
EXCLUSIVE! Inside Chelsea’s early plans for the summer transfer window – will they spend big again and what positions are they looking at? News on Sesko, Osimhen, Gyokeres, Toney, Robinson, Davies, Kilman, Andersen, Guehi, Diomande, Todibo, and much more!
Things are finally starting to look up a bit, even though many Chelsea fans will still be approaching this time with real caution.
The performance last night against City was superb, especially defensively and also in an attacking sense in the first half of the game.
Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill were colossal as the centre backs, and Sky pundit Jamie Carragher believes that Thiago Silva will lose his regular starting place in the team due to these two.
“A couple of big away games, you go back to Aston Villa in the FA Cup and here today, where Thiago Silva hasn’t been involved… and he’s been brilliant for Chelsea since he’s come in,” Carragher said on Sky Sports after Chelsea’s draw at City.
“I think with the age of him now and his contract is up at the end of the season, when you see those two (Disasi and Colwill) playing there together, I think it makes it very difficult for Thiago Silva to get back into the team between now and the end of the season unless someone gets injured.
“I think Chelsea, yes they’ve got the Carabao Cup final [against Liverpool next weekend], but they’ve almost got to start building something for the future because there’s not an awful lot to play for after the cup final.
“I think looking at those two as a partnership and maybe another younger centre-back, I’m not sure who else they’ve got in the squad, but I think the days of Thiago Silva playing for Chelsea have got to come to an end.”
