Ladies and gentlemen,
It is an honour to stand here today as we gather to unveil this new plaque to commemorate the Brentford players who lost their lives during our past wars and conflicts.
Today, we honour their memory, not only as players at Brentford FC but as individuals who tragically lost their lives in service, in wartime or as civilians.
Many of these men who served our country faced unprecedented challenges, including leaving their families behind to defend our freedoms and values, which we benefit from today.
We are grateful to Bees United for organising this plaque which is a tribute to the bravery of these men and a reminder of their legacy, bridging our club’s history from its early days to our days here now at the Gtech Community Stadium. The names of those on this plaque wore the Brentford badge with pride, and their spirit remains with us.
As Remembrance Day approaches, we are reminded that these players show that community was as important back then as it is now. And it is because of people like these men that we keep our community in mind in everything we do.
As we remember and reflect on the sacrifices these men made for us, it only remains for me to once again, thank Bees United and those who have made this plaque unveiling possible, and thank you to all of you for joining us here today including members of the Cherries Trust. And finally, thank you to these men that we honour today.
May we always keep their memory alive in our hearts.
