A top West Ham source has spoken exclusively to Claret & Hugh within the past hour to provide clarity on the transfer situation surrounding Guido Rodríguez.
The Argentine midfielder was reported to have regretted his move to the Premier League, preferring to remain at Real Betis rather than joining West Ham at the London Stadium. It was understood that the player and his representatives were exploring an early exit from his contract to facilitate a return to La Liga.
However, according to a top Hammers insider, Claret & Hugh can reveal there is little appetite within the club to accept a significant financial loss on the player. Although Rodríguez’s transfer to West Ham was labelled a “free,” the club invested heavily in a substantial signing bonus, which they are reluctant to write off after just six months of service.
Speaking this afternoon, the high-ranking Hammers source said: “No decision will be made until January, but let’s see if we get an offer. He [Rodríguez] received a big signing-on fee because he was a Bosman.”
It’s clear that if any club wishes to secure the midfielder’s release from his West Ham contract early, they will need to pay a fee to offset the significant costs incurred in bringing him to East London.
