Pressure has been mounting on Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou as the Lilywhites continue to struggle in the 2024/25 season with Spurs laying in the tenth position on the table in the Premier League and the supporters start to get worried about the season.
The North Londoners recent defeat against Ipswich Town at White Hart Lane ahead of the international break was a painful blow that left the supporters feeling frustrated and questioning whether the Australian head coach is the right man to lead Spurs to silverware. The loss against Kieran McKenna’s side brings out the consistency problems that Tottenham have been facing lately, complemented by the defensive issues that have hurt Spurs throughout the ongoing campaign.
Spurs boss Postecoglou faces backlash
Many supporters have been calling for Postecoglou’s head given that results have not been on the brighter end, with Spurs losing five of their eleven (11) Premier League games this season, and this lack of form has placed increasing pressure on the former Celtic manager given how Tottenham are aspiring to finish in the top four and quality for Champions League football next season.
And former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking on the latest edition of the Inside Track podcast (via. Football Insider), insists that Ange’s future at White Hart Lane could be determined if Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League or Europa League this season. He insists that the Greece-born coach could lose his place at N17 as early as February 2025 if Spurs drop out of all the cup competitions and are not within reach of European qualification.
He said:
“He’s under pressure now. But I think he’s bang under pressure at the end of the season if they fail to make it into the Champions League or Europa League again. I think there’s got to be some signs of progression under his management.
“They’re being beaten too easily and they’re too susceptible defensively. He’s stuck with this style when it doesn’t necessarily suit some of the players in his side. He’ll always be under pressure at Tottenham, because the stigma surrounding the need to win a trophy is not going to go away. It’s the stick used to beat them with by every other club, so if he wins a trophy and doesn’t reach European football, would that be enough?
“I’m not convinced. I think European football is vital for Tottenham and where they are as a club. Ange has earnt the right to have time, but they don’t seem to be learning from their mistakes. At the end of the season, yes, he’s bang under pressure if they don’t achieve what they want to achieve, but at the moment, he’s okay.
“In February, if they drop out of the cup competitions and it doesn’t look like they’ll compete for European places, he could lose his job before the end of the season.”
