Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah as Daniel Levy looks to recruit on the defensive side of things going into the 2025 transfer intervals.
Ange Postecoglou has been calling for a central-defensive transfer for a while now, and given how light the Lilywhites are in the position, mends with the Australian’s desire to strengthen his defensive options. The struggles have been shown on surface in the ongoing campaign where the North Londoners have struggled with defensive consistency owing to injuries and lack of depth.
Micky van de Ven as well as Cristian Romero, the first-choice starting pair at the heart of defence, have both had defensive problems this season, and Spurs only have Radu Dragusin as the first-choice backup at N17 with no other alternative. Veteran defender Ben Davies can fill in the position if needed; however, that would lose much of its quality in the current style that Tottenham play.
Tottenham have been looking at Jonathan Tah
Spurs have been looking at Jonathan Tah, whose contract with his current employers is due at the end of the current campaign, and Daniel Levy is trying to explore both others — a possible bargain deal in January as well as a free transfer in the summer for the 28-year-old.
However, the Lilywhites pursuit has dealt a blow as Premier League rivals Chelsea have emerged as frontrunners for Tah’s signatures, per Caught Offside. The Blues’ interest is complemented by the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, which makes any transfer to White Hart Lane a difficult prospect.
