Stuart’s speech
Bees United has as one of its core reasons for being “to promote and protect the history and heritage of the Club” and today we do this with the unveiling of this plaque.
This plaque is our Remembrance of those servicemen connected with this club, who, when the call went out, stood up from this community, and answered the call to defend our freedoms and our way of life.
And so, on this Remembrance weekend, with this plaque unveiling we give an answer to war poet, Siegfried Sassoon’s challenge:
“Have you forgotten yet?…
Look up, and swear by the green of the spring that you’ll never forget.”
Our answer is that we will not forget, and we shall remember the service and the sacrifice of those who served to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life.
