It feels like months (and in fact it could well be months) since Chelsea last played well enough in the Premier League to get player into Garth Crook’s team of the week. But we managed it this week – although it may not be who you expect.
Chelsea’s stars on the day were generally agreed to be the central defensive partnership of Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill, with Malo Gusto also getting plenty of credit for his performance.
But Crooks went for the goalscorer, Raheem Sterling.
He noted that the winger had changed the game against Crystal Palace on Monday night, and that “Mauricio Pochettino recognised his player was back in the mood and started him at Manchester City.”
Sterling was up to his usual tricks of combining inspiration with frustration, but in the end he did get the goal to put us ahead, and probably deserves more credit than he’s got from a few fans.
We wonder if he will still be in the mood on Sunday?
