Pat Nevin has said that Chelsea are suddenly starting to resemble “a grown up football team.”
Chelsea head into the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool with a bit of confidence behind them having beaten both Aston Villa and Crystal Palace 3-1 and earned a deserved 1-1 draw against Manchester City last weekend.
The Blues face a big challenge at Wembley against Liverpool in what will be their fourth consecutive match away from Stamford Bridge.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side will need to put in a much improved display having been convincingly beaten 4-1 by Jurgen Klopp’s men at the end of January.
However, Nevin has noticed a change in Chelsea’s young team and the direction they are heading in under the Argentine.
He told BBC Sport: “Chelsea on the other hand have suddenly begun to resemble a grown up football team. The maturing process was always going to take a while, but the performances against Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and now Man City have underlined that Mauricio Pochettino should lead them to much more than mid table mediocrity next season.”
A win this weekend would give this young Chelsea side so much confidence heading into the remainder of the season with European qualification and the FA Cup still all to play for.
Chelsea have lost their last five finals at Wembley and have won just one of their last seven, the 2018 FA Cup under Antonio Conte.
Pochettino will be desperate to change that record and win his first trophy in England and deliver the first trophy of Todd Boehly’s ownership.
