This is a bit of news that comes as no surprise to me at all. And that is because I actually had the exclusive story on it back in August 2023.
Chelsea were making a last ditch attempt to sign a top striker and this lead them to knocking on the door of Liverpool to ask about their striker Darwin Nunez.
EXCLUSIVE! What Chelsea’s new recruitment expert will actually be doing at the club and the players he has already scouted (one is on Chelsea’s radar for the summer already).
I reported this at the time on my website and on the Podcast, as seen below.
Chelsea did enquire for Darwin Nunez late on in the summer window, reported it on my site and on the Podcast at the time! pic.twitter.com/C2zRfonB8A

And now The Times has reported that what I said at the time, did happen!
They report Chelsea Sporting Director Paul Winstanley is an admirer of Darwin Nuñez, and Liverpool rejected an inquiry from Chelsea for the player in the summer.
It’s also no surprise that Liverpool rejected the approach, as they were hardly going to let their main man up top leave the club even if he was in and out of form at the time.
