Nicolas Jackson has suggested top strikers may think twice about coming to Chelsea given the long list that have struggled to make an impact in the past.
The 22 year old arrived in the summer following a £32m move from Spanish club Villareal and has scored seven Premier League goals so far including a hat trick against rivals Tottenham.
The Senegal internationals time at Stamford Bridge has been plagued by poor finishing with the forward missing a number of very good opportunities through the course of this season.
Jackson has featured regularly under Mauricio Pochettino this season and has performed well since returning from the African Cup of Nations earlier this month.
He scored against Aston Villa and had arguably his best game in a Chelsea shirt against Manchester City setting up Raheem Sterling and being a constant threat to the City defence.
Issues in the attacking third have been a problem for the Blues for a number of years and the club have been strongly linked with a move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen this summer.
However, when speaking to talkSPORT Jackson put forward a theory as to why big name strikers may turn down the chance to sign for Chelsea.
He said: “It’s not easy, if you think of all the strikers that came here, you would not want to come here.”
“If you think about the strikers that come here, and people say they’re not good enough, you would think, ‘There is no need for me to come here’.”
“But I was brought up to be challenged and don’t listen to other people and just do the thing that’s the most important, that’s playing for the team and make the team win, and being in a good relationship with the players and the coach and everybody.
“That’s the most important for me. That’s why I came. When I came, I understood why they were saying they’re not good enough, because it’s a big team and everything, but life is like this.”
“We just have to continue working and believe in ourselves and try to improve every day.”
Chelsea will be hoping Jackson can play a key role as they look to lift the Carabao Cup on Sunday.
