Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher covered the Carabao Cup final for Sky Sports, and their disbelief grew through the game at the efforts from Chelsea to win the game late on.
Liverpool had an increasingly weak team out there, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men simply didn’t go on the front foot and hurt them. They just waited for the Reds to score, which they finally did just before the end of extra time.
Jamie Carragher referred to the Liverpool team by the end as “Klopp’s kids,” and Neville went one further:
“You called them Klopp’s kids. In extra time it’s been Klopp’s kids against the blue billion pound bottle jobs,” he said of Chelsea.
It’s hard to disagree with that. Maybe it’s just the emotion of the moment, but we’re pretty furious about the capitulation we just witnessed.
Conor Gallagher and Nicolas Jackson were the engine of the team, and once they were off there was nothing left. There were so many scared faces out there in the final stages – and they weren’t the raw kids in Red, they were those on the faces of big money signings, as Neville pointed out.
