Chelsea have been slaughtered pretty openly both by the media and by fans after their extra time capitulation against Liverpool on Sunday.
One person willing to stick his neck out and defend the Blues was Mario Melchiot. The former Chelsea defender pointed out that his old team had had “a lot of opportunities” to win the game, long before extra time was on the cards.
It’s true that everyone would be talking about the game in a very different way had one or two things been fractionally different.
Melchiot did admit that he thought Chelsea looked less well prepared than Liverpool for the game, and that’s pretty damning in itself.
