Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes there is a lack of togetherness at Chelsea following the Blues Carabao Cup final defeat to Liverpool.
Virgil Van Dijk’s header with just two minutes of extra time remaining piled more pressure on Mauricio Pochettino and was the latest chapter in what is shaping up to be another miserable season for the Blues.
Chelsea currently sit 11th in the Premier League and are facing the possibility of no European football for the second consecutive season.
Wright believes that a decision from Enzo Fernandez to try a backheel instead of passing to Raheem Sterling or Cole Palmer who were in better positions highlighted a lack of togetherness at the London club.
Speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty show the 60 year old said: “You do look at it and you feel, we spoke about Liverpool and their togetherness, Chelsea you feel the disconnect with the fans, what’s going on upstairs, with the players, now the manager is under pressure, you just feel like there’s no togetherness.”
“You rightly mentioned the backheel from Enzo in the box, in a final, you lay it to someone and they score a tap-in, it’s what a team does, when you’re playing for a team.”
“For him to not do that just shows where they are at the moment, they’re all over the place.”
Chelsea and Pochettino will need to provide an immediate response against Leeds in the FA Cup tonight as they look to book their place in the quarter finals.
