The games are coming thick and fast right now, and that means press conferences are too.
Mauricio Pochettino is sitting in his latest one now. First up was injury news, and there were positive reports about two defenders.
Thiago Silva has missed a couple of weeks and Marc Cucurella a few months, but both could potentially return to the squad this weekend, Pochettino reported.
“We need to assess [Silva] and Marc Cucurella. Maybe it is possible to be involved in the squad. [It would be] good news, if they will be possible to be in the squad.”
Neither is likely to be starting anytime soon anyway, but both provide vital cover in their positions. Left back is particularly thin, with Alfie Gilchrist having had to cover for Ben Chilwell in midweek. Cucurella is not everyone’s cup of tea, but he is at least a proper left back, and his return will help a lot in this busy period.
Silva faces a tougher test to get back into the team, but there still feels a strong chance that Pochettino keeps him as his preferred option going forward.
