John Obi Mikel has revealed he keeps texting and calling Chelsea transfer target Victor Osimhen in an attempt to convince him to join the club this summer.
It’s well documented that the Blues are in the market for a striker as they bid to solve their issues in front of goal.
The London club have been strongly linked to the Nigerian forward who is currently playing for Italian side Napoli.
The Stamford Bridge outfit have a strong affiliation with African players with the likes of Mikel, Michael Essien, Salomon Kalou and Didier Drogba all playing at Stamford Bridge during their careers.
In an interview with The Standard Mikel revealed he has joined forces with Drogba to try and personally convince Osimhen to join Chelsea.
He said: “I keep sending him text messages, calling him and making sure he joins Chelsea.”
“I know he loves Chelsea, but other clubs want to sign him at the end of the season. Didier (Drogba) is also speaking to him, sharing his ideas, and we’ve been telling him why we love the club.”
Mikel added: “It’s a huge transfer fee, but it would be fantastic if we could get him. You saw in the final we lack someone who can finish and score goals. We don’t need someone who creates chances like Harry Kane.”
“We need someone who takes chances like Erling Haaland. I believe there will be talks at the end of the season, and I hope he joins Chelsea FC.”
Osimhen fired Napoli to their first Serie A title since 1990 last season and scored 31 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.
The 25 year old hasn’t fared as well this time round with injuries disrupting his campaign but has still managed 13 goals from 21 appearances in all competitions.
