Ruben Amorim is gearing up for his first match in charge of Manchester United – and Mason Mount could play a huge role in his plans.
The newly-appointed Red Devils manager has finally taken charge of United – almost three weeks after he was confirmed by the club.
Amorim has taken over a United side languishing in 13th spot in the Premier League table.
Having picked up just 15 points from 11 games – scoring 12 goals and conceding as many in the top-flight – fans are desperate for the Portuguese boss to turn things around quickly.
The 39-year-old‘s first task will be against Ipswich at Old Trafford on Sunday, with the Tractor Boys to be full of confidence following their first win of the season away at Tottenham before the international break.
There has been much talk of Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 formation, which worked wonders at Sporting Lisbon – seeing him win 164 out of his 231 matches.
And one man that could benefit from the system is Mount, who has been plagued by setbacks since joining from Chelsea in a deal rising to £60million in July 2023.
Fans would be forgiven for forgetting he still plays for the club as injuries limited him to just 14 league appearances last term, while repeated niggles has seen him feature just three times in the top-flight this campaign.
Having not played since matchweek six in the 3-0 defeat to Spurs on September 29, the England international appears to now be fully fit and raring to make an impression.
And judging by training footage released from Amorim’s first day on Monday, the ex-Braga manager likes what he sees from the 2021 Champions League winner.
In the video which has been doing the rounds on social media, Mount – and the rest of his teammates – can be seen putting the hard graft in during a passing and shooting drill.
One moment shows Mount busting a gut to get on the end of Tyrell Malacia’s pass, before firing in a pinpoint low cross for Amad Diallo to stroke into the back of the net.

It led Amorim to shout out, ‘Good movement Mase,’ with Mount then scoring himself in the next clip.
Sprinting into the box, Mount got on the end of a delivery to half-volley home into the top left corner from six yards out.
The camera then panned to Amorim, who was watching intently before cracking out a smile in what appeared to be a sign of approval.
And United fans couldn’t help but comment on Amorim’s praise of Mount, as one X user posted: “Mount is a top player. Not surprised Amorim will like him.”
Another messaged: “Mount is one of the best attacking midfielders, Ten Hag just failed to get him into the team.”
A third added: “Mount redemption arc I’m so there man.”

This fan then commented: “A manager who uses Mason Mount correctly is a manager that’s probably going to do well. Let’s just hope.”
Meanwhile this supporter said: “One thing Mason will always give you is movement, he never stops moving.”
One then simply stated: “Mason Mount impresses any verified footballing eye.”
Should Mount be named in the line-up to face Ipswich at the Theatre of Dreams, it would be his first start in any competition since the Premier League opener against Fulham.
