A year ago, you’d have said that Chelsea were even deeper than they needed to be at left back.
They had Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella, Lewis Hall and Ian Maatsen on the books. But since then Hall and Maatsen have left, and Cucurella has been injured.
It’s no wonder they’re targeting new options, and among them is Archie Brown, the English defender playing at Gent in Belgium.
Nizaar Kinsella reports that Chelsea are going to push hard for the 21 year old, while also attempting to sell Cucurella – which looks like a tricky task given the monster fee they paid for the Spaniard.
Either way, Brown looks a potential bargain. He’s forged a career in Europe first in Switzerland and now Belgium having left Derby in 2021. The report values him at £15m, which would obviously rise if some of the many teams rumoured to be rivalling us for his signature start bidding.
