Chelsea’s interest in Nico Williams was reported all day yesterday, and last night Jacob Steinberg added some fresh details to the whole affair.
The Guardian writer insists that the Blues are looking to sign a striker, and want a “traditional number 9.”
Williams doesn’t fit into that – he’s a winger. But it sounds like the Blues are just going to have to be flexible on where they spend their budget because top targets like Victor Osimhen are looking more and more distant.
As Steinberg points out, any signings depend on sales, and those could be in short supply if those players we’re trying to sell don’t raise their game.
Could we yet see another summer where we don’t bring in a striker, and instead hope that attacking signings in other parts of the front line will “unlock” Nico Jackson or Armando Broja or Deivid Washington? It’s hard to see them not bringing in one option at least.
