A glance at the WhoScored team of the season shows no Chelsea players – as you’d expect.
The Blues have been very poor compared to the likes of Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool. Even Everton, Aston Villa and Fulham have players in the mix.
As you’d expect, Cole Palmer is closest. He has an average rating of 7.12, while the lowest rated midfielder in the XI currently has a 7.4.
Of course the overall team of the season isn’t judged on these stats – but it gives you an idea of what Palmer is up against.
For all of his excellent showings, it’s hard to see him getting past Phil Foden or Bukayo Saka for a place out wide, especially as one of them is likely to have won the title.
Still, there’s plenty of season left to play – if Palmer continues his ridiculous scoring and assisting rate, he could easily get into the WhoScored team, even if he doesn’t get the actual league’s award.
