Before the international break, the big story around Paul Wanner was that he had conversed with Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann and turned down a call up to the senior team in the ongoing struggle to decide to represent Germany or Austria. Instead, he opted to stick with Germany’s U-21 side. After all of that fuss, however, his international break has been struck with bad luck.
He was substituted at half time in the first game of the international break against Denmark’s U-21s, with an injury suspected to be the reason. Germany could, unfortunately, not share any better news on the injury via their official Germany youth twitter account:
Paul Wanner is injured and could not recover in time to be fit for today’s game [against France’s U21s]. [Wanner has] already left the #U21 and [is with his club Heidenheim]. We wish you a speedy recovery, boys.
Both Heidenheim and parent club Bayern Munich will be crossing their fingers that the injury is not that serious and will not prevent the youngster from continuing his ascendancy as one of the hottest young talents in the Bundesliga.
