As per our sources, Liverpool could be tempted to make another fresh attempt to sign Bournemouth centre-back Lloyd Kelly this summer.
The Reds were linked with the defender in the summer of 2019 as a cover for Andy Robertson but they were unable to convince him to join the club. Hence, the English star moved from Bristol City to the Cherries in the same year.
Kelly’s contract with his current club expires at the end of the 2023-24 season. The versatile player can operate as a right-back and also a centre-back.
Liverpool have some issues to sort out at the back. Virgil van Dijk is in the wrong side of the 30s and Joel Matip’s contract will also end this summer.
Joe Gomez has been inconsistent at the back. Although they have also used him as a right-back, that has worked only up to a limited extent.

The club have also utilized Conor Bradley as an RB and Jarell Quansah as the CB, but both players are still young. They need experienced defenders at the back and Kelly fits the bill perfectly.
The 26-year-old’s prime years are yet to come and he has gained enough Premier League experience with the Cherries.
Could Liverpool be successful in signing Kelly in their third attempt?
The Reds will be happy not to spend even a single penny if the defender decides to run down his contract this summer.
Jurgen Klopp’s side could receive another major advantage in this deal. Bournemouth’s current director Richard Hughes will be taking over as Liverpool’s next sporting director and he can make things easier for his future club.
He could materialise this move for free and convince the player to reject any contract proposal talks. Kelly suits the Reds’ style of player as a young homegrown player who is ready to play at the highest level.

However, it remains to be seen whether the club prefers to sign him or look for other available options in the market. Players like Piero Hincapie, Goncalo Inacio and Ousmane Diomande are also being tracked by the English giants.
