As Lee Carsley’s brief spell as England boss a new revelation has emerged about West Ham star Jarrod Bowen which will leave him red-faced.
Everyone connected with West Ham felt aggrieved by Lee Carsley’s decision to snub Jarrod Bowen for the last two England squads.
It was a major surprise given Bowen’s consistently high level of his performances for the Hammers over the last few years.
West Ham’s captain has also impressed in the brief time he’s had in an England shirt too.
As Hammers fans are well aware, Bowen’s goal and assist record is right up there with Bukayo Saka’s.
His all-round statistics for West Ham are top drawer too.
Just five English players in the Premier League have a better overall average match rating than West Ham’s main man this season.
So fans were understandably angry when Bowen was left out by interim England boss Carsley for the second squad in a row.
Nine withdrawals meant Carsley was forced to go cap in hand to Bowen to join up with the Three Lions.
The Hammers ace gleefully accepted the invitation of course, showing his commitment matches his talent.
That gave West Ham fans an incentive to watch the game with Greece on Thursday night.
Bowen was given 25 minutes by Carsley and he worked his socks off before playing a key part in the killer third goal.
Now a new revelation about West Ham star Bowen leaves Carsley red-faced as his England tenure ends.
Revelation about West Ham star Bowen leaves Carsley red-faced
The game against Republic of Ireland will bring the curtain down on Carsley’s strange stint as interim boss.
He will say goodbye ahead of former West Ham target Thomas Tuchel taking over in January.
And Carsley does so with egg dripping down his face – certainly as far as Hammers fans are concerned anyway.
As previously stated, only five English players in the Premier League have better all round stats than West Ham’s Prague hero.
But nobody – not one – is better when it comes to attacking impact.
Forget Cole Palmer, Saka, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Anthony Gordon, Noni Madueke and all the rest.
Even when you throw the Prem’s foreign stars into the mix too, none are above Bowen in terms of his attacking threat.
Because Bowen is the only player in the Premier League this season to complete over 20 successful dribbles and deliver over 20 key passes for their team.
What was Carsley thinking with Bowen snubs?
With that in mind it begs the big question.
What on earth was Carsley thinking leaving Bowen out of the last two squads?
It’s actually laughable.
Bowen will undoubtedly be delighted to see the back of Carsley.
He and West Ham can only hope Tuchel does not come in and perpetuate the clear big six bias that’s been prevalent in England selections for far too long.
Bowen’s performances and statistics deserve a start given England’s absentees include Palmer, Saka, Foden and Grealish.
With Bowen you get everything; goals, assists, killer passing, pace, someone who rarely if ever gives the ball away and of course that insatiable determination and workrate.
How many others bring all that to the table?
