An experienced Scottish journalist has made an intriguing revelation about West Ham plans which will get under the skin of Celtic.
There is no lack of irony that West Ham are going after two Scottish stars after the departure of former Celtic man David Moyes.
According to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, that’s exactly what the Hammers are planning.
The news will not go down well at Celtic.
Because they want the same players.
West Ham and Celtic are having very contrasting seasons.
The Bhoys are leading the way at the top of the Scottish Premiership and are just three points off second spot in the new format Champions League.
Meanwhile West Ham are having a disastrous campaign under new boss Julen Lopetegui.
They sit 14th in the table, closer to the bottom three than the European spots.
Ex Celtic defender Moyes left West Ham with the smallest and second oldest squad in the Premier League.
Along with technical director Tim Steidten, Lopetegui brought in nine players and shipped out 12 in the summer.
But somehow the Hammers have ended up with the oldest squad in the entire top flight.
West Ham will irritate Celtic if big transfer claim is true
That’s despite pledges from Lopetegui and Steidten to rebuild the team around young, exciting, versatile players.
West Ham have an average age of over 28 and it’s showed on the pitch.
Now it seems radical plans are in place to change that.
And West Ham will seriously irritate Celtic if a journalist’s big transfer claim is true.
Taking to his Patreon page, Nixon states the Hammers are eyeing a double signing from north of the border.
The Sun journalist says West Ham are chasing Airdrie’s midfield teen sensations Cole and Dylan Williams and ‘want to snatch them from under Celtic’s nose’.
Nixon states the 16-year-old twins have been in electrifying form and can quit the Diamonds where they are on short-term agreements.
And he claims West Ham and Premier League rivals Southampton are ahead of Celtics in the race for their signatures.
“The pair recently stood out against Celtic at youth level and the Parkhead club are taking a big interest,” Nixon said.
“However Saints and Hammers have sent spies to Scotland twice in recent weeks and seem to be heading the race.”
Who are Williams twins wanted by West Ham?
So who are the Williams twins and why are West Ham and Celtic so keen to sign them?
The promising young duo have quickly become standout talents, impressing fans and coaches alike.
Cole Williams is described as a dynamic midfielder boasting great vision, passing accuracy and an ability to control the tempo of games that belies his tender years.
Cole has earned plaudits for his composure under pressure and leadership qualities too. Goodness knows West Ham are sorely lacking in the latter this season.
His ever so slightly younger brother Dylan is said to be an exciting attacking talent who can play on either wing.
Dylan is better known for his pace, skill and appetite for taking on defenders.
Both have been tipped for future stardom. So it’s easy to see why West Ham would want to get them in the building.
The Hammers have not been given young players a fair chance in recent years.
That’s despite being the self-styled Academy of Football – roots the club’s fans are fiercely proud of.
Celtic have also faced criticism in Scotland of late for failing to give more chances to players aged under 21.
So it could send a big message about West Ham or Celtic’s intentions in the coming seasons depending on who wins this particular race.
